Ever had someone come into your house and say, “phew, it smells like dog”? Helloooo….I do have a dog, or in my case, dogs. Sorry, the odor comes with the territory. We may not notice it ourselves, but to a non-dog person, the odor can be quite offensive.

And just try selling your house with pet odors. That is another chapter in the story. I tried the usual methods…bathing them, keeping up with house cleaning, the works. But until I removed all of the old carpet and washed down the walls, the real estate agent was not satisfied. There is a lot of dog training information available. You will find everything from training a new puppy, to dealing with a barking dog, and just about everything in between. This information will indeed be helpful and necessary if you have a new puppy in your home.

Many people believe that they can housebreak a puppy by “rubbing their nose in it” when they have had an accident. This does not work. All it really does is scare and humiliate your best friend and can actually make the problem worse.

Grapes, Nuts, and Your Dogs Health – Foods that Fido should Avoid

“Magoo was a big, playful Labrador retriever who often got himself into sticky situations…”

So begins a story in the latest report from the ASPCA on foods that may be toxic to dogs. It turns out that Magoo got into the pantry and snagged himself about a pound of raisins. He ate the whole thing, of course.

The ASPCA never mentions Magoo’s fate. But they do tell us that as little as a handful of raisins can impair a dogs health and has been fatal for some. Ditto for the grape.

Dogs and Their History

It is amazing how many different shapes, sizes, colors, and types of dogs there are. And it is even more amazing considering they all came from the same ancestors. The story of dog history says that early humans took in wolves for pets. Perhaps they discovered these wolves could be fed and kept close in return for their “watch dog” or hunting ability. This could have been handy in keeping other predators at bay around the camp at night.
